Safety advice

Rock climbing is a dangerous sport which poses a risk to those who take part in it and to others. Accidents are most likely to occur where equipment is used incorrectly or through a lack of appropriate attention. It is crucial that both the climber and belayer understand how to ensure safe climbing. You should be aware of:
  • Harness fitting
  • Rope technique
  • Use of your belay device
  • Other climbers
If you are unsure please ask our qualified staff, who can offer advice to provide a safe climbing experience.

Grigri

Grigris

Are you using your grigri correctly?
There have been several accidents involving grigris in the climbing press recently. It is important to remember that the grigri offers the belay a backup. It is not, however, infallible and should be used correctly. The belay should a always keep one hand on the dead rope and not hold the grigri open with their thumb on the lever.
